The role of software architecture in the engineering of software-intensive applications has become more and more important and widespread. Component-based and service-oriented architectures are key to the design, development and evolution of all software systems.

The European Conference on Software Architecture is the premier European conference dedicated to the field of software architecture, covering all architectural aspects of software and service engineering. It is the follow-up of a successful series of European workshops on software architecture held in United Kingdom in 2004 (Springer LNCS 3047), Italy in 2005 (Springer LNCS 3527), and France in 2006 (Springer LNCS 4344).

Building on the above success the first European conference in the ECSA series was held last year in Madrid, Spain (Springer LNCS 3047 ).
ECSA 2008 will bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to share novel ideas on the foundations, languages, models, techniques, tools, and applications of software architecture technology. It will include keynotes, research, experience, and challenge papers, posters, and panels.

The proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag as part of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series.

Authors of best papers will be invited to submit revised and extended versions of their papers for the Special Section on Software Architecture of the Journal of Systems and Software.
